Essential Items to Pack for a Nomad Bedroom

As a nomad, it’s essential to pack wisely and efficiently to ensure that you have everything you need for your travels. Packing for a nomad bedroom, or more importantly, a nomad closet, can be challenging, but it’s not impossible. Here are some do’s and don’ts to help you pack smartly for your big adventure.

What to bring:

  1. Clothes for all seasons and occasions: Packing clothes for all seasons and upcoming events is crucial. Nomad life didn’t prevent us from traveling on work trips requiring dress clothes, vacations that require swimsuits and cover ups or weddings for friends and family.

  2. Shoes: Like clothes, pack shoes for all occasions and seasons, including snow boots, flip-flops, and a few pairs of heels/dress shoes. Bonus if you can make shoes versatile for multiple situations.

  3. Hangers: Most places don't provide enough hangers, especially if traveling with a partner and there aren‘t always dressers. Yes, they are bulky but bring the hangers.

  4. Laundry basket: It's helpful to have a laundry basket for more than dirty clothes. Store your hangers in it when moving between locations ..

  5. Pillows: If you have a favorite pillow, bring it with you. It will save you from cheap pillows that are hard on your neck.

What to leave:

  1. All of your clothes: Don’t pack all of your clothes. Downsizing is a hard reality to face, especially if you plan to buy new clothes during your travels. Only pack what you need and what you know you’ll wear.

  2. Large jewelry box: Travel with a smaller jewelry box to keep your jewelry organized and secure. A larger box can be hard to protect and keep nice.

  3. Poor quality winter gear: If you’re traveling to a place with a harsh winters, don't pack your cute and stylish winter coat. Instead, donate it and buy new gear locally so you know its designed for that climate..

  4. Multiple handbags: Avoid packing multiple handbags when space is valuable. Only pack a few key pieces: wristlet, clutch, cross body, etc.

  5. Iron and Ironing board: Provided by landlord.

Optional items to bring:

  1. Drying rack: If you have space, consider a collapsible drying rack if you have a large number of clothes that can’t go in the dryer.

  2. Sheets: If you’re going to pack a set, make it a single set of queen sheets. The quality of sheets can vary from place to place, and having your own set can be a saving grace.

  3. Blanket: Pack a comfort item, like a blanket. It can be useful during the summer months if the provided comforter is too thick or acts as a great throw blanket in the living room.

  4. Hand steamer: A small portable hand steamer is our preference but each location has had a an iron and ironing board and included.
