Considerations for your Nomad Living Room

Out of all the items you are packing and considering taking, the nomad living room is the one that tend to comes the most complete when moving into a mid-term rental. There are a few nice-to-have’s that we recommend, especially to make a space feel more like a home, and a couple we don’t think are worth the space in your vehicle. Read below for our first-hand tips.

Pack these items:

If you're an avid gamer, bring your PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch along with all the necessary accessories. Having your gaming system and games readily available allows you to enjoy your favorite pastime wherever you go. It's a great way to relax and unwind during your travels, without relying on external entertainment options. Consider pre-loading digital games and signing in to your streaming services in advance to save time and hassle at each location.

Leave behind:

Your DVD player and movie collection should not be welcome on your adventure. With the rise of digital streaming services, DVDs are not practical when transport space is precious. It's easier and more convenient to access a wide range of content through streaming platforms, especially with the prevalence of Smart TVs in most locations.

While it's understandable to have preferences regarding TV size, it's generally easier to find accommodations with a television than without one. Most places offer TVs, even if they may not always meet your ideal specifications so save the stress and leave yours behind.

For your consideration:

Consider bringing your own streaming device, such as a Roku, Apple TV, or Firestick. Although most places provide Smart TVs and Wi-Fi, having your streaming device allows you to access your preferred streaming services without the need to sign in at each location. However, keep in mind that these devices can be easily forgotten or misplaced, so ensure you keep track of them.

A throw blanket can be a comforting and familiar item from home. Packing one can provide warmth and coziness, enhancing your sense of comfort in your temporary living space. We traveled with one and used it often. Throw blankets being provided by a location are about 50/50 it may or may not be available.

Bringing a framed picture with a cherished family photo or pet can add a personal touch to your nomad living room. It serves as a reminder of home and can make you feel more connected to your roots during your travels. We have pictures with friends, one of all the family pets and had an abundance of Christmas card photos hanging during the holidays.

Consider packing a few activities like puzzles, favorite board games, or playing cards. These can be enjoyed during downtime and provide entertainment, especially when staying near friends or family. Puzzles are also easy to trade, donate, or offload once completed.

While not essential, a hand vacuum can be beneficial, especially if you're traveling with a pet. It helps to keep your living space clean and tidy, but it's ultimately a personal choice depending on your needs and preferences. This item came recommended to us and while we see the value, we opted out.

By carefully considering the items to bring and those to leave behind, you can create a comfortable and enjoyable nomad living room. Bringing gaming consoles, personal mementos, throw blankets, and entertainment options can help make your temporary space feel like home. Remember to choose items that align with your preferences and adapt to the ever-changing nature of your nomadic lifestyle.
